This report from New Zealand gathers the views of a wide range of different organisations, individuals and experts on how and why elder abuse and neglect occurs and what can be done to prevent it.
The results are based on the perspectives of the informants in the study and highlight issues as seen from local and wider community levels:

- individual level: isolation and the increasing physical (and sometimes mental) challenges associated with ageing emerged as individual-level risk factors for elder abuse and neglect. They were compounded in people who had experienced other adverse events such as other forms of abuse and poverty.
